Entry #8
This week we went over the stuff for the new chapter: we learned the kanji (which were probably the hardest I've seen yet), vocabulary, grammar, and read the lesson, which was hard. I probably liked the lesson the most since it was challenging. My success would be learning the kanji for the quiz, though I doubt I got them all right. Learning the rest of the kanji is going to be difficult, so I'll probably study a little today. My favorite grammar point from this chapter is probably o nozoite, since it's so nifty.

Entry #6
We've learned a lot this semester about various elements of Japanese culture, such as washi and haiku. We've also learned various grammar points, vocab, and kanji. I think I've enjoyed the culture stuff the most. I like learning to read the kanji as well, though I hate writing them. I think the hardest grammar point for me so far is koso, since it's really hard (impossible?) to clearly define and translate. I try to use it very cautiously. It's hard to really give details about my report, everyone's is about the exact same thing. I chose to point out the fact that haiku require kigo and must refer to nature, as well as the fact that Japanese people's video games often get damaged by the sun because they allow more sunlight into their homes than Americans.
